The Algerian Air Force ("Al Quwwat aljawwiya aljaza'eriiya") was established after the country became independent from France in 1962. With Soviet support, the Algerian Air Force acquired planes starting with MiG-15 UTI's and MiG-15bis fighters delivered through Egypt in 1964. Also other aircraft followed like the MiG-17 and much later the MiG-21 and even the MiG-25. Since 2000 second hand MiG-29 fighters were purchased. Relations with the West improved and numerous other types are in use including American and French supplied aircraft. Training is done with some 32 L-39 Albatros aircraft.
The MiG-25 flew until mid 2022 and were the last operational Foxbats in the World.
