Aquilon model in 1/32 scale by Meindert de Vreeze
... continued from page 3...
The folding wing option will be applied on the Aquilon model and requires adding some details to the wing folding mechanisms. To add strength, a thick metal wire was used from a thick paperclip.
On Internet a photo was found,
but I am not sure if this is correct. No more information could be found, so I only changed the seat activation
wire colour to yellow. The seat cushions seem to be leather colour.
The seats do fit into the tiny space in the cockpit tub.
On the Aquilon
203 model, the forward nose was set open. The area was detailed with strip,
rod and card.
Finishing the French Aquilon
Berna set 48-07 was mostly used with some items from Berna set 72-02. From the decal spare box came also some red stencils and red lines. Lighter blue roundel "centres" were required; also darker blue centres have been seen on (older) aircraft.
Aquilons can be seen as well with quite some variations on the number of roundels (4 or 6) and the location of the white registrations. Sometimes squadron markings are seen.
Before decaling, the model got an overall coat of Johnson Future gloss coat to avoid "silvering". Adding the Berna decals went OK.
The nose cone for the Aquilon 203 hinges upwards.
Here the overall result of the nose
A pylon was made from thick card and
sanded in shape at the rear and front leading edges.
Also, the wing holding bars were made and painted red. Small holes were drilled in the fuselage boom and wingtip to hold the bar. Each bar got two tiny pieces of metal at their ends to fit the holes.
Here also some red squares are seen at the upper intake lips, made from red decal.
The separated airframe panels were
also detailed and sprayed, but are not put onto the model itself:

note the particular airbrake on the right....
