Custom decals designed by Meindert de Vreeze

Regularly, I design my own decals for my aircraft models as these are not available in after market sets or not in a particular scale.

For example: for a 1/32 Tornado ADV, aftermarket decal sheets had no white dotted walk way lines. Over 15 years ago, I had 3 custom decal sheets printed for my Tornado F2 or F3 in 1/32 scale.

Some modellers also want those decals for building their models and sometimes they send me a mail to ask about a decal sheet. Sometimes, it is possible to provide a sheet.

Each custom designed decal sheet is nowadays custom colour laser printed by a "Third Party". To save costs and effort, each laser print has one "continuous print film" on the decal sheet. So each individual decal needs to be cut out with fine scissors or use a sharp blade knife, steel ruler and glass plate.

No other prior decal preparation is needed as these are laser prints. Each cut out decal can be applied as usual after soaking it a short while in water. The printed decal sheets are VERY THIN, so conform to surfaces well. So it is crucial to slide off each individual decal from the wetted backing sheet on a horizontally held GLOSSY model surface.

As usual... after all decals have been applied, finish the model with your preferred final gloss, matt or semi-matt varnish coats. This will also protect on your model all the applied decals for years to come.

DECAL SHEET #6 ( E.E Lightning F6 mk.53 Saudi Arabia)

From 1966 Saudi Arabia acquired for its air force E.E. Lightnings. These had as most Royal Air Force aircraft a natural metal scheme with various metal shades. Some 35 mk.53 were acquired which was a F.6 derivative (with thus a larger wing with kinked leading edge and larger belly).

The 1/32 Trumpeter F2A / F6 kit #02281 can be used (or even better: the rare Echelon Lightning vacuform kit).
(if you need another scale decal print, let me know).
Look here at my 1/32 Lightning model in RAF scheme....

This 1/32 scale sheet has roundels and squadron markings for RSAF Lightning mk.53:

[1] Saudi Arabia Air Force, F.53, conversion unit, 53-693, “L”
[2] Saudi Arabia Air Force, F.53, no. 13 squadron, “1305”
[3] Saudi Arabia Air Force, F.53, no.   2 squadron, “227”
  sheet-6
NOTE: extra numbers and codes are provided for other Saudi Lightnings.

Natural metal scheme with various metal shades. The Lightnings had old style roundels and swords. Use stencilling and walk way stripes from the kit. Many aircraft had a white background behind some of the stencillings, these are on the decal sheet as option to the kit decals. On the sheet are also a few stencillings with arabic texts. No details are known, photos may reveal these.

Apply black walk way stripes as per kit. 2x5 black arabic texts for the walk ways are provided although it is not clear if these were always applied.

Saudi Lightnings had wing roundels and RSAF titles.
